After completing the “Online teaching: an instructor’s guide for dealing with digital, diverse classrooms” produced by Kiron Open Higher Education in cooperation with TH Lübeck, you will be equipped with the necessary introductory skills to plan, prepare, and hold online courses with diverse groups, with an emphasis on live instruction. You will receive an introduction to the fundamentals of online teaching and challenges to e-learning from the perspective of blended learning professionals at Kiron Open Higher Education. Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded a certificate in online teaching as well as digital badges per unit.

Exploring the transition to the digital age in higher education teaching

The global Covid 19-pandemic led to many challenges for higher education (HE) teachers but at the same time provided an opportunity to not only re-evaluate a previously unquestioned teaching culture, but to point to the need to fundamentally question the capabilities of HE institutions and teachers to implement digitally supported education at the organizational, teaching, and learning levels. In this study, we analyzed data from 1,339 HE teachers’ conclusions for post pandemic teaching in the light of instructional course quality. Our findings shed light on HE teachers’ mindsets toward traditional face-to-face and online teaching as well as (im)probable changes in academic teaching culture. Our results offer a “bottom up”- basis for recommendations of how institutions may support their faculty for digital transformations in HE, based on teachers’ expertise and perceptions of the advantages and hindrances of HE online teaching.

This is an opportunity to give feedback on recommendations arising from a piece of research which will be published soon. Digital leaders in universities have been interviewed to gain an understanding of their attitudes towards equality, diversity and inclusion. In this session you will get insights into what they said and how this relates to you as learning technology professionals. The session will include discussion of personal and professional risk and the decisions we make to lead change in a nuanced and balanced way. It may also provide a starting point for you to do further research within your own organisation.

Soziale Interaktionen in digitalen Lernumgebungen

Corona-bedingt musste im Sommersemester 2020 ein Seminar im Bereich der Grundschuldidaktik Sachunterricht, das als Forschendes Lernen konzipiert war, in ein digitales Format umgewandelt werden. Es wird explorativ untersucht, welche Bedeutung die Lehramtsstudierenden in ihren Reflexionsportfolios (N=31) den sozialen Interaktionen im Forschungsprozess zuweisen und wie sie dabei die Virtualität der Lernumgebung thematisieren. Theoretischer Ausgangspunkt ist das Modell der Community of Inquiry (Garrison et al. 1999, 2010), dessen drei Elemente teaching presence, cognitive presence und social presence für die Analyse aufgegriffen werden. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass ko-konstruktive Prozesse in hohem Masse auch in einer digitalen Lernumgebung möglich sind, d. h. Austausch auf der sozio-kognitiven Ebene erfolgreich stattfindet. Die Hochschuldidaktik sollte sich, neben den technischen und räumlichen Herausforderungen durch die digitale Lehre, jedoch auch mit den sozio-emotionalen Wirkungen von digitalen Lehrformaten befassen, da von den Studierenden vor allem die fehlende physische Präsenz als Mangel erlebt wird.

Hochschulstrategien für die Lehre im digitalen Zeitalter

Der digitale Wandel verändert den Arbeitsmarkt fundamental. Laut World Economic Report werden alleine 65 % der Kinder, die heute in die Grundschule kommen, später in einem Job arbeiten, welcher derzeit noch nicht existiert.1 Junge Menschen müssen daher auf eine Arbeitswelt im kontinuierlichen Wandel vorbereitet werden. Aber auch, um aktiv und verantwortungsvoll an einer Gesellschaft teilzuhaben, die immer stärker durch das Internet, soziale Plattformen und künstliche Intelligenz gestaltet wird, brauchen Menschen heute neue Fähigkeiten und Fertigkeiten im Umgang mit digitalen Medien und Daten. Als zentraler Bildungsakteur kommt den Hochschulen im Kontext des digitalen Wandels daher eine maßgebliche Gestaltungsaufgabe zu, insbesondere in der Weiterentwicklung der Hochschullehre im digitalen Zeitalter. Dem digitalen Wandel entsprechende Lehre findet zunehmend Verbreitung an deutschen Hochschulen. Neben den „Vorreiter/innen” des digitalen Wandels in der Lehre, die die Weiterentwicklung von Lehre, Didaktik und Curricula mit großem persönlichen Engagement vorantreiben, zeigen immer mehr Lehrende Interesse am Thema und werden dabei zunehmend von auf- und ausgebauten Medien- und Didaktikzentren unterstützt. Damit sind an vielen Hochschulen wichtige Grundlagen geschaffen, um den digitalen Wandel institutionell zu gestalten und in die Breite zu tragen. Der digitale Wandel für die Lehre bedeutet dabei weit mehr als eine explizite Digitalisierung des Lehrens und Lernens im Sinne von Online-Lehre. Vielmehr meint „Lehre im digitalen Zeitalter” den Einsatz von Methoden des Lehrens und Lernens in Präsenz wie auch im virtuellen Raum, die der digitalen Welt gerecht werden und eng mit zeitgemäßen curricularen Inhalten und Studienmodellen verzahnt sind. Für diesen ganzheitlichen Wandlungsprozess der nächsten Jahre brauchen Hochschulen heute eine Strategie.
